Recent Contact Police Deaths (DSI) is an essential course for all those in a management or investigative role following a ‘recent police contact’ death.

The Police Service in England and Wales is legally obliged to ensure deaths that occur following direct or indirect contact with the police are robustly and transparently investigated.  This intensive course will cover what does, and does not, constitute such a ‘recent contact death’, how they must be investigated and the interaction with the IPCC and Coroner in their independent scrutiny roles.

This is not just a course about deaths in custody, it covers the full remit of deaths to be referred to the IPCC and follows the journey from discovery and investigation to judicial scrutiny, be it in a Coroner’s Court or elsewhere.

Facilitated by a former Head of PSD  this course will draw on his significant experience in the field to ensure students achieve the greatest possible understanding of the issues involved and have the knowledge and skills to conduct transparent, effective investigations and effectively engage with statutory partners and families of the deceased.

Numbers on courses are limited and due to the positive response to our PSD courses we recommend you contact us to register your interest and reserve places.

If you prefer, we are able to arrange bespoke PSD Courses throughout the country, either at your organisation

or at a suitable venue nearby, and at a time that is convenient to you.

DSI – Birmingham November 2017

“Another excellent course from Sancus. Ian Kennedy very knowledgeable and personable as ever. Content very relevant for my individual role and met requirements I had as well as providing me with increased confidence in my decision making. Thank you”. – BM Cambridgshire Constabulary

DSI – Cumbria June 2017

“Another brilliant and value for money course delivered by Sancus. My team and I loved the relaxed approach to the classroom sessions as it created a supportive environment where people were able to confidently ask questions and contribute to discussions. The content was relevant and helpful to PSD officers who undertake duty rota covers and would be expected to respond to potential DSIs and PIPs. Would definitely recommend to other agencies who are considering commissioning training from Sancus”. – D/Supt Sarah Jackson, Head of PSD, Cumbria Constabulary

DSI – Lincolnshire  June 2017

“I met Ian on my Investigators course and asked him to deliver this training to all of our team because I knew that the style and content would be perfect for us. I was not disappointed. Thanks Ian”. – SD Lincolnshire Police

DSI – London May 2017

“The course was primarily aimed at Professional standards Officers – but as a likely recipient of a DSI – Custody Sergeant – I felt the course was just as relevant to my role as that of PSD”. – LD BTP
